Mascom Wireless has donated over P290 000 to the Botswana Substance Abuse Support Network (BOSASNET) to help fight substance abuse in the country.

Speaking at the donation ceremony in Gaborone on Monday March 7, the firm’s chief public relations and communications officer, Ms Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego said the reality of substance abuse warrants society’s intervention.

She said as the oldest and largest mobile network provider, they found it fit to assist organisations such as BOSASNET to ensure that Batswana were made aware of issues of substance abuse.

Ms Lebotse-Sebego further announced that they have started a project dubbed Mascom e-school which intends to connect the Internet in all public schools starting at primary school level.

For her part, Mascom chief marketing officer, Ms Dzene Mkhwade-Seboni said they have partnered with BOSASNET in a promotion called Give and Win Big.

She said the aim of the promotion was to enable Mascom Wireless to assist organisations charged with the mandate of helping society such as BOSASNET.

She said the promotion was also aimed at creating excitement among Mascom customers and to encourage them to give.

Customers have to send a message to a Mascom number to stand a chance to win as well as to donate to BOSASNET. The promotion awarded over 300 customers various prizes worth P300 000.

Receiving the cheque, the acting executive director of BOSASNET, Ms Prisca Mokgadi expressed her gratitude towards Mascom.

She said the donation would allow BOSASNET to pay salaries for its staff.

She added that the money would also be channelled towards day to day activities of the organisation. ENDS
