The Zebras coach, Peter Butler says he has achieved his objective of searching and identifying new talent in the North West after the successfully coordinated Under 21 Football tournament hosted by Sankoyo Bush Bucks.

The one day tournament which attracted eight teams from Maun, Makalamabedi, Orapa, Gumare and Sepopa was held at Maun Sports Complex . 

 The Sepopa team from the Okavango district was crowned the champions after beating the Wolfsburgh from Maun 2-1 and walked away with a trophy and some medals.

Coach Butler expressed happiness in an interview after the tournament noting that he has found what he wanted. He said the district proved that indeed the talent in sports is abundant in North West district hence the need for it to be nurtured and developed. 

“I have identified many quality players who could be recruited to build the future national squad. I have realised that this region has raw and young talent that needs to be nurtured as that would benefit the country,” he added.

Coach Butler noted that the players at the tournament displayed unique physical attributes that made them more attractive citing the two teams namely Wolfsburgh from Maun and Sepopa which battled it out in the finals.

He said indeed, Botswana youth have a bright future in terms of sports.The identification of raw talent is a project initiated by coach Butler and he has revealed that it has given positive results since its inception adding that he would continue to expand it to other areas across the country as he realised that there is talent which needs to be exposed.

He said the search for new talent is important for the medium and long term objectives and most importantly for the development of sport in the country.

Butler said he aims to travel the country in search of talent that would raise a bar of competition noting that after his mission, he would ensure that the identified players come to Gaborone to compete with their counterparts. ENDS
