Dikgosana not remunerated -Van der Westerhuizen

03 Mar 2016

The population of a ward should be between 500 and 1 000 for a kgosana to be appointed. Answering a question in Parliament on Tuesday, Assistant minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Frans Van der Westhuizen said he was aware that Dikgosana in Keng are not remunerated. He said due to Keng’s population of 1 172 as of the 2011 population census, the ministry does not intend to increase the number of Dikgosana because Keng already has four Dikgosana paid an allowance.

The minister was responding to a question by Jwaneng-Mabutsane MP, Mr Shawn Nthaile, who asked the minister if he was aware that two headmen of arbitration in Keng have not received remuneration since 2007.  He also asked what action was being taken to remedy the situation and when the matter would be resolved.
