Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele says the Deeds Registry does not segregate title deeds or leases according to nationality hence he is unable to provide information on the number of plots owned by foreigners and foreign owned companies.
Mr Maele told Parliament that his ministry has embarked on a project to computerise records at the Deeds Registry through the Land Information System, which would interface with the Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property. MP for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had asked the minister to state the number of plots owned by foreigners and foreign owned companies in Gaborone and the percentage to the total number of the plots in the city.
