Govt reviews cattle compensation deterrent

The government last month reviewed the deterrent compensation for cattle destroyed when they have entered the Foot and Mouth Disease infected area.
Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse said previously cattle were compensated at P400 per animal, but now the compensation stands at P700 for cattle, with a diminishing amount of P100 each time such cattle ingress into the Foot and Mouth Disease areas.
He further said for small stock, it has been raised from P25 to P200.
The MP for Ngami, Mr Thato Kwerepe had asked the minister if he was aware that the compensation for cattle shot at the buffalo fence stood at P900 per animal, and if so, were there any plans to review it .Ends
