Residents not issued with certificates
01 Mar 2016
Residents of some Etsha areas are not issued with certificates of customary land grant for residential allocations.
Answering a question on behalf on the Minister of Lands and Housing, Minister Nonofo Molefhi said only Etsha 1, 6 and 13 were recognised in accordance with the provisions of the national settlement policy.
He said residents of the three settlements were, therefore, issued with customary grants certificates for residential purposes while the rest were not.
He said all people who had not been issued with certificates of customary grants for residential use were in areas that were not recognised as settlements.
However, he said in such areas, members of the community were issued with certificates for arable farming purposes.
Minister Molefhi said for as long as land applied for was compatible with the land use of the area, the Tawana Land Board would continue to accordingly allocate land and issue certificates.
The Member of Parliament for Ngami, Mr Thato Kwerepe had asked the minister if he was aware that residents of some villages in Etsha had not been issued with certificates of customary grants. He also wanted to know when they would be issued with such certificates. Ends
