Hogs overpower Cheetahs

06 May 2013

Gigantic battle between Gaborone Hogs and BDF Cheetahs rugby teams ended with a 13-8 win for the Hogs on May 5.

The expression, when two bulls fight the grass suffers, came true when the two giants met.

It was a battle of the titans and as the game started, it was evident that it was not going to be easy although the Hogs had a better start as they went to the offensive immediately.

With a number of experienced players on both sides, some of whom play for the Vultures, the rugby national team, spectators were treated to an exciting display of skills.

The Hogs made attempts for a try several times and in one occasion they were unlucky as they dropped the ball right when they crossed the line.

They eventually made one through Jeremy Babbage to make it 5-0 and Eddy Oosthuizen converted the kick, taking the score to 7-0.

Cheetahs did not relax but continued to fight and eventually made a try which however, failed to follow up with a good kick hence by half time, the score line was 7-5 in favour of Hogs.

Hogs could have increased the tally but were unfortunate as the ball dropped once again from their hands.

In the second half, none of the two teams could penetrate each other’s defence but Cheetahs took advantage of a penalty to take a 8-7 lead.

Oosthuizen missed a penality but made one and thus restoring Hogs’ lead to 10 points.

He made the last penality with a few minutes from regular time taking the score to 13-8. ENDS
