Mine workers receive safety awards

Debswana Jwaneng mine has awarded and recognized its employees who have shown adherence to zero harm as punted by the mine’s safety policy.
The awards, known as the Jwaneng Premier Safety League, were introduced in an attempt to increase safety, health and environmental awareness on the mine.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Jwaneng Mine acting general manager, Mr Sedireng Serumola said the awards recognise the efforts and contribution of Jwaneng Mine employees to the mine’s zero harm aspiration.
Mr Serumola said the purpose of the awards are to drive accountability for safety, health and environmental issues across the mine and also to encourage peer support, observance and team work within the mine employees.
The league, which was launched last year, presented awards to 344 employees that have adhered to the zero harm policy.
“I am happy that the management appreciates my hard work and dedication to safety in the work place,” said employee Ms Wendy Benn.
One of the recipients, Mr Thato Mphinyane expressed delight at receiving the award, saying that it would motivate him to continue adhering to safety rules.
Jwaneng Mine’s senior sustainability manager, Mr Tefo Molosiwa said management was proud of the employees and their response to safety on the mine.
Jwaneng Premier Safety League awards are held annually and provide an incentive to both employees and departments to perform their best in the upkeep and practice of the SHE regulations. ENDS
