Ministry to investigate provision of tents to poverty beneficiaries

28 Feb 2016

Acting Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele says his ministry is not aware that beneficiaries under the Poverty Eradication Programme who have applied for tents are now given gazebos save for the 118 beneficiaries in Gaborone.

Mr Makgalemele said it was a special dispensation as per the request by the Gaborone City Council in 2013.

He said for the period 2014/15 and 2015/16 financial years, 415 beneficiaries were given tents, adding that gazebos, just like tents were used for hiring to enable beneficiaries to make a living from the proceeds received. Mr Makgalemele said his ministry would investigate further the provision of gazebos instead of tents to the said beneficiaries and give feedback to Parliament.

The MP for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had asked the minister if he was aware that the beneficiaries who applied for tents under the Poverty Eradication Programme were now being given gazebos. ENDS
