Palapye hails LAPCAS
21 Feb 2016
The community of Palapye is happy that the systematic land registration project, also known as LAPCAS, offers property owners convenience. Thanks to the project, residents were recently offered plot numbers.
Village Development Committee member at Thomadithotse ward, Mr Moarabi Setlagole, has said that LAPCAS will boost the village’s aspiration to become a town.
“The Palapye Administrative Authority has been pleading with us to cooperate with the officers conducting the project as the move is solely meant to expedite service delivery as government’s wish is to know who owns what and where so as to plan for the citizenry and deliver on its promise,” Mr Setlagole said.
According to Setlagole, government’s plan is already bearing fruit as services like water reticulation and attendance to faults are timely as a simple telephone call quoting a plot number means a significantly shorter reaction time and a deserved convenience for the community.
“The same applies to when we seek the immediate help of the police. Plot numbers reduce the response time and this can and will significantly reduce crime as perpetrators will be apprehended and brought to book,” said Mr Setlagole.
The LAPCAS exercise started in Palapye in 2013 with surveying and registration of plots. So far 7,199 plots have been surveyed and registered. Through this exercise, the government will be able to establish who owns what and where.
Another resident, Ms Karabo Nthoka is adamant that the advent of plot numbers is going to make life easier as services such as cooking gas and fast food delivery services will reach the community within a shorter period of time than before.
He said service providers used to be reluctant to serve customers at their homes for fear of getting lost. He said that they at times used long routes to reach customers.
Palapye Police Station Commander Superintendent Waboraro Ramaja says the project will improve police officers’ turnaround time. He said using maps will make it easier to locate places as well as help them respond to crime reports on time.
Premised on the positive feedback from Palapye residents and the business community, it will not be speculative to believe prospective investors now have a chance to weigh their options of investing in the budding village by merely considering the convenience brought about by LAPCAS. ENDS
