The Ministry of Health engaged Indus Healthcare India and Stobech Facilities Management through laid down procedures as contained in the Public Procurement and Assert Disposal (PPADB) Act.

Health minister, Ms Dorcas Makgato said the ministry has a contract with Indus to provide medical specialists to health facilities over a period of two years, which started in March 2015.

She said the ministry does not have any agreement with Stobech Facilities Management, but used to have a contract with the company that elapsed in August 2015. “The contract was for the provision of facilities management/maintenance of health facilities,” she said.

Ms Makgato said Indus was first engaged in November 2012 for a period of two years. During that period, minister Makgato said, over P138 million was paid. She explained that the current two years contract which started in mid-March 2015 has since seen the company paid over P54 million. She said in the last 38 months, the company had been paid over P192 million to provide specialists.

Minister Makgato said the ministry engaged Stobech Facilities Management in 2012 to develop a strategy for the maintenance of health facilities.

During that period the company was engaged from June 2013 to August 2015 to implement the strategy. During that period the company was paid fees amounting to over P38.5million. “Therefore the company was paid fees totaling P39 992 079 90,” she said.

Directors and shareholders of Indus Healthcare India are Dr Sant Prakash Singh, Dr Kavit Sant, Dr Ramandeep Singhand, Dr Navtej Singh while those of Stobech are Mr Steve Wallbanks, Mr Kevin Derek, Mr Peter Walsh, Mr Jaco Naude and Servest Multi Service Group Botswana.

Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the minister what agreement the ministry has with Indus and Stobech, and how the companies were engaged. He also asked the minister how much the companies received as payment since they were engaged, and to state the directors and shareholders of the companies. Ends
