Francistown plan to generate 40 000 plots
23 Feb 2016
The Francistown Development Plan of 1997 to 2021 proposes to generate close to 40 000 residential plots when fully developed.
Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele, told Parliament on February 22 that, “the approved layouts for Blocks 1 and 2 at Gerald Estate yielded 6 402 residential plots while more than 29 926 residential plots are expected to be generated out of the remaining 2 302 hectares in the rest of the blocks in Gerald Estates,” Mr Maele said while he could not state with a degree of certainty when the 18 000 backlog of land applications will be eradicated, his ministry will continue to explore several strategies to provide requisite infrastructure.
He said these strategies included planned land servicing programme, primary or bulk land servicing and allowing the private sector to do internal reticulation and full engagement of private sector land servicing. MP for Francistown West, Mr Ignatius Moswaane had asked whether the minister was aware that unserviced land in Francistown could produce more than 20 000 residential plots, and when the ministry of Lands intended to eradicate the waiting list of 18 000.
