Management plan in place

23 Feb 2016

Conservation International has developed a management plan for the Western Kgalagadi conservation corridor which encompasses most of Kgalagadi North, says the Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Mr Tshekedi Khama. Answering a question in Parliament, Mr Khama said the plan has identified possible activities with tourism potential, of which the ministry adopted and has already commenced with implementation of some of the recommendations.

Minister Khama said such activities are western Kgalagadi Cultural Festival held in Kang and the development of cultural village and campsite in Phuduhudu under the Tourism Development Fund. He said it should be noted that the area in question has a lot of private farms and ranches under the ownership of Batswana; therefore, any further tourism development would depend on their willingness for diversification.

Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi North, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi had asked the minister if he would consider developing a tourism strategy for Kgalagadi North with a view to identifying activities and areas with potential for tourism in order to develop them for the benefit of the communities. Ends
