23 Feb 2016
The Economic Stimulus Programme present an opportunity for the youth in businesses to participate fully in the industry and tender for projects
This was said by Ms Medy Moatshe from the National Strategy Office during a presentation on the ESP at the Youth in businesses workshop organised by the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture in Lobatse.
Ms Moatshe said government has injected money into different projects that will help boost the economy saying youth companies are expected to provide goods and services.
She explained that government has adjusted certain processes for this programme to be a success and benefit the youth in business.
Ms Moatshe further explained that ministries are given funds to implement projects and stated that priority should be given to tenders from youth companies.
Ms Moatshe emphasised that the youth should have relevant skills and requirements of the industry they want to venture into saying commercial banks are ready to assist the youth with the necessary finances and that government is yet to talk with CEDA and other financing institutions.
Meanwhile Mr Kebainee Sengalo who is a contract registration administrator at the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Board told the attendants that registration is mandatory. However, he explained that nobody is forced to register with them but it is upon a business person to do that so as to take part in the buying and selling of goods in Botswana.
Furthermore, Mr Sengalo said the purpose of registration is to have an up to date register of contractors in works, supplies and services and also that as stakeholders the youth have the right to enquire about any project in their proximity.
Chairperson for the Umbrella Ward Development Committee Mr Nathaniel Bathai encouraged the youth to always use the money they have been funded with wisely and avoid using it for their own personal use. Ends
