Women football team gears up for CAF encounter

The senior women football team is in camp to prepare for the CAF Africa Women Cup of Nations.

They will play against Mauritius in the first leg billed for in Lobatse Sports complex in March 5. There after the team would travel to Mauritius for the second leg in March 18.  

The team coach, Gaolethoo Nkutlwisang, said she had called a pool of players capable of causing an upset against their opponents.

She said although Mauritius was a closed book to her, she was happy with the level of preparation, adding they had so far three weeks in camp. The coach further said Mauritius has not been playing a lot of competitions.

Gaolethoo said she has tighten the regular team with other deserving players from the Under 20 squad, which she said she was happy with because they were competing with the senior players for positions.

Furthermore, she said all the players were ready for the big encounter “since we reported for camp the girls are responding very well, and there is a lot of spark. They are gelling well as a team,” she said.

The coach said as team they were committed to even go further in the tournament given that should they humiliate Mauritius home and away they will proceed to the next leg where they would meet Banyana Banyana of South Africa.

Gaolethoo, said currently everyone is working round the clock to ensure that the ladies team produce positive results on match day.

However University of Botswana sport psychologist Dr Tshepang Tshube who conducted fitness test on the players on Wednesday said in his opinion the players were not yet physically fit . Ends
