Tswiige vows to bounce back

Former national boxing team 69kg hard hitting pugilist Mmusi Tswiige has made an assurance of repeating his impressive past performance and don the national team colours once again.
The heavily built 24 year old Ghanzi born boxer has been replaced by his bitter rival Lentswe Zwinila in the 69kg division after the latter edged him on a slim judge’s split decisions in last year’s Nnational championships.
Speaking on the sidelines of the second edition of the Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) interclub tournaments lined up for this year, Tswiige admitted to facing tough opposition from Zwinila but vowed that given chance and with timely preparations he was likely to reclaim his spot in the national team.
Tswiige, an entertaining and lethal boxer whose passion for the sport drove him from humble beginnings deep down in the Ghanzi region to impressive international standards is optimistic that this year’s boxing calendar will prove his grit.
He stamped his authority after breaking into competitive bouts and snatched a silver medal at the Zone VI championships in South Africa.
Hot on the heels of the championships Tswiige travelled with the national team to Glasgow for the Commonwealth Championships where he was eliminated in the quarterfinals. His last contribution to the national team was last years’ All Africa Games where he scooped a bronze.
On Saturday Tswiige proved his mettle against wet behind the ears University of Botswana youngster Monthusi Moitoi pounding him 3-0.
In other interesting bouts Calvin Tswelelo succumbed to Omogolo Botsheleng’s hooks in the second round. Basha Motlhamme continued his fine form against Kebinamore Godisang of Thebephatshwa. Another interesting 69kg boxer Ofentse Kompone was unlucky to sustain a minor cut above his right eye ruling him out of his match against Phillimon Moipolai from Francistown.In the 56kg Keteng Kgomotso beat Tshepiso Mojatlhose while Macheng Moemedi knocked out Katlego Semokobe.
Tshepo Stoffel beat Gabriel Nanogang after a split decision. Ends
