Stanbic shuts down Molepolole branch
21 Feb 2016
The decision by the management of Stanbic Bank to close the Molepolole branch on February 19 has left many customers disappointed.
Closure of the branch has also left residents worried that despite the area’s vastness and population, many businesses were closing shop
Stanbic Bank head of customer channels, Mr Calistas Chijoro said the branch was closed owing to lack of business. He explained that customers would now be serviced in Mogoditshane.
He said after reviewing their operations and resource allocation, it was deemed necessary to close the branch and re-allocate resources to serve a greater customer base.
“We are excited to redirect our energy and our focus to other areas,” said Mr Chijoro. He urged customers to make use of the alternative banking channels including ATMs, Mobile and Internet Banking.
“These channels remain extensively available to our clients in Molepolole, and enable one to carry on with most of their banking without having to enter into a branch,” he said.
The bank’s move to close the branch has not been received well by most customers who also learnt about the closure on Friday.
Customers said it was regrettable that they were parting ways with the bank’s services they used to enjoy. They noted that they were already accustomed to fast service and not having to queue.
They felt getting services from Mogoditshane would be an inconvenience while some considered opening accounts with other banks in Molepolole. Over the past years, franchises such as Nandos, Chicken Licken and Shabbas have closed shop.
The Molepolole business community has blamed proximity to the capital city as some of the reasons why businesses in were not doing well. Ends
