Objections stall streetlighs projects

18 Feb 2016

A tender that the Francistown City Council (FCC) awarded on September 19, 2015 for installation of streetlights in Block 5 and 6 in which Area 36 falls, could not proceed since some bidders objected.

Responding to a parliamentary question on Tuesday, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen, said his ministry was aware that some residents of Gerald Area 36 had no street lights and since the award of the tender was objected by other bidders, the contract had not been signed by FCC pending resolution of the dispute by its Appeals Board.

He said therefore the project was put on hold pending conclusion of the appeal process.

Member of Parliament for Francistown West, Mr Ignatius Moswaane had asked the minister if he was aware that some residents in Gerald Area 36 had no streetlights.

He also wanted the minister to state when the streetlights would be provided in that area. Ends
