Popa women unstoppable

17 Feb 2016

Township Rollers women have finished the first round of the Women Super League on a high gear after clobbering Big Sisters 12-0 on Saturday.

As a result, Rollers moved to the summit of the log. Double Action had been at the top of the league until Saturday when they played to a one-all draw with Prisons.

Having played 11 games in the first round, Rollers lost only one game, hence accumulating 30 points, whereas Double Action won nine, lost one and drew one

Despite the fact that only two points separated the two teams, Double Action would have a mountain to climb in order to reclaim their position.

Now second round of the Women Super league would start during the weekend, which would see Double Action face Prisons on Saturday. On Sunday, Popa women would once again come face to face with Big Sisters.

Popa coach,  Gaolethoo 'Ronaldo' Nkutwisang, said their intension was to defend the championship therefore they would not leave anything to chance or let complacency cloud their minds because the finished first round at the top.

She said they had tightened their squad by poaching Kesegofetse ‘Odinga’ Mochawe and Refilwe Tolokelo both from Meat Girls, adding that this season they wanted to finish the league at the top.

Talking about their coming game, she said they were preparing well for the big encounter, and they would not undermine their opponents, because the danger part was that they were still fresh from the same fixtures.

She said Big Sisters was working on rectifying their mistakes, hence the encounter was going to produce sparks.

“My team is also looking forward for the big game I will also want to try some combination to see what it can produce, however we will miss the services of Masego Montsho who is on suspension and Amogelang Moagi who still nursing an injury” she said.

Sisters coach, Dimakatso Odisitse, said his team was made up of students who were busy with their studies, therefore it was difficult for his girls to gel as a team.

He said their aim this season was to avoid relegation given he did not have a formidable squad, which could challenge for honours.

“I have lost two defenders the other one is attending fencing course in Senegal, while the other one cannot make it due to work commitment”, he said.

Talking about their coming game against Rollers, he said their intention was to hold their opponents to a draw, or at least reduce the score margin.

On Saturday UB Kicks will host Meat Girls at UB Hawks ground, while Gaborone United will have a date with South East Girls at Water Utilities Ground.
