President not always able to attend summits
09 Feb 2016
It is not always possible for President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama to attend conferences and summits due to other pressing commitments as was the case with the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele said it was important to note that President Khama was duly represented by a high level delegation led by the Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi.
“At this session, the heads of state made ‘affirmation of support statements’ and Honourable Masisi ably articulated Botswana’s position on issues before the assembly and no document was signed during the session,” he said.
The MP for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had wanted to know why President Khama missed the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015, where the presidents of other countries signed for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Ends
