Official urges Ghanzi residents to gear up for celebrations

BOT50 representative, Kefentse Masimolole, has implored Ghanzi residents to create hype for the country’s 50th independence celebrations.
Masimolole said this in Ghanzi in a consultative meeting with the district leadership and residents . The meeting was held to solicit input and ideas from various stakeholders in order to achieve ownership of the golden jubilee celebrations.
Therefore, Masimolole said the residents and their leaders should work together to come with activities within the theme of the celebrations. Activities, he said, should start immediately and not wait for the last minute.
He implored artists in Ghanzi District to showcase their talents in various activities. He, therefore, implored residents to work in unity towards the September celebrations.
Citing some of the key points to hype the event, Masimolole said branding the district in national colors could be a start.
He said placing the signages of BOT50 in strategic places around the district would add to the branding of the district. He said every Motswana wear national colours on Fridays.
He also stated that essays and quiz competitions, which were geared towards educating Batswana and giving an insight to the independence of Botswana.
“It is a marketing tool to spread knowledge about the 50th anniversary,” Masimolole explained, adding that it would also be sharing of knowledge on Botswana’s journey to success.
Masimolole also urged the leadership to educate people on the use and meaning of national symbols in order to revive them. He appealed to residents and the leadership to give respect to the national symbols.
Also in the activities lined up to hype the jubilee celebrations would be the inter faith service. He said a consultative meeting would be held with the various religious organisations for their involvement as well as to emphasise the role of religion in the 50th anniversary celebrations.
Also adding to the list of activities, Masimolole said, was the torch and the seven Vision 2016 pillars which will be used to tell Botswana’s success story. This, he explained will be preceded by public education on the four national principles of Botswana through the roving torch.
As every Motswana is counting down to the 50th independence celebrations, Masimolole reminded residents that it was imperative that every individual, family, community, organization and institution put Botswana first in everything that they did.
