Debswana First Division North log leaders Mahalapye Hotspurs were on Saturday toppled from the top spot by Sua Flamingoes, who beat them 1-0 in game played at Sowa Stadium.

Although Flamingoes ascended to the summit through a slim margin of a point, the Sowa Town lads are confident that they will consolidate their lead and see themselves playing in the beMOBILE Premiership next season. 

Flamingoes’ coach, Jacob Galeboe, who was given marching orders by the match officials for talking on his mobile phone while in the technical bench, said in an interview that being at the top of the table means hard work, which entails consistency and focus to strengthen their lead.

He also noted that it means being the centre of attention and attraction from other teams who aim to topple them, but said they are ready to battle it out and proceed to the elite league next season.  With only nine games to wrap up the second round, he said their main focus is going to be on earning maximum points at any given time, adding that whether playing home or away, their discipline is going to be the same so that they remain focused.

Galeboe also emphasised that because they are still struggling with the finishing up formula, it is one area they are also going to work on in order to compliment their defence, which is consistent in terms of letting goal ins.

The win for Flamingoes means they now have 27 points, leaving behind Hotspurs on 26 with the third on the log, Ecco City Greens on 23 after they drew 1-1 with Tafic in a Francistown derby. 

Galeboe said their position  calls on them to remain focused as the league is still open for any of the teams, hence commitment is going to be their top priority.

Hotspurs coach, Candy Tsheboeng said despite the loss, he is not worried yet as most of his team’s remaining games are home fixtures with three against Francistown giants in Ecco City Greens, Tafic and Great North Tigers being away ones. Ends
