Ecco Tafic derby ends goalless
01 Feb 2016
The Francistown derby between Ecco City Greens and Tafic ended in a goalless draw during the Debswana First Division North League match played over the weekend.
Played under a cool breeze, the game failed to produce sparks as anticipated.
Both sides failed to gel and play flowing football in the opening half.
It became more tactical in the second half, but unfortunately it was not an attractive game much to the disappointment of the impressive crowd that attended the game.
It seemed both teams did not want to lose the game, as both defences put their best foot forward with Thato Mosweu of Tafic being a marvel to watch as he marshalled his defence.
The game was also tight as no team wanted to make any mistakes therefore producing few goal scoring chances until they went to a break having not found the back of the net.
In the second half, Tafic came back a better side interchanging good passes even though they failed to create goal scoring opportunities.
Ecco on the other hand did not give up as they also fought hard and failed to utilise the few goal scoring chances they created.
In the 57th minute, Ecco brought in Oarabile Powe for Bakang Malabola to increase their attack.
They were forced to make another forced substitution in the 62th minute when Gaboratanelwe ‘Radio’ Kgosietsile was fouled by Tafic’s Motsioatile Elijah, which forced him to be taken out of the game.
Tafic coach, Atshele Molapi introduced the duo of Molebatsi Kalangwai and Mosa Tamokate in the 71st and 75th minute to search for a goal but to no avail.
The result means Ecco will remain on 3rd position with 23 points while Tafic will also remain on 5th position with 19 points.
In a post-match interview, Ecco coach, Texan Phiri said he was impressed with his players as they played according to plan.
He further said in the second half, his players were not in the game because Tafic was well organised.
His counterpart, Molapi said he was happy with a point even though he wanted the full three points, noting that they prepared well for Ecco as they lost against them in the first round.
In other games played over the weekend, Tasc played to a two all draw with Real Movers while Tsabotlhe walloped Palapye All Stars 3-1. Maun Tigers also walloped Kazungula 3-0, with Tonota losing to Great North Tigers 2-0. Ends
