Rollers sign two players

28 Jan 2016

Township Rollers have signed Bidvest Wits player, Gerald Phiri on a four months loan.

Rollers had landed the services of 22-year-old Malawian attacking midfielder until the end of the season.  The team’s mouth piece, Phempheretlhe Pheto said they hoped to offer the player a contract at the end of his loan, thus if his team agrees to sell the young player to them.

In addition, Pheto said they had  also signed former Thailand’s Division One side, Chiangmai striker, Terrence Mandaza.  Mandaza once plied his trade at South African’s side Maritzburg United before joining Chiangmai.

He said they had signed Mandaza to beef up their attacking arsenal. Though, he might not be the  Mandaza they came to know about six years ago, he said they hoped that they would be able to reap something from his vast experience in front of goal posts.

He said the move is a bid to strengthen their attacking department after releasing some of their strikers.  Pheto  also pointed out that Rollers had released Jerome Louis and Carl Finningan.

“We can confirm the release of our two strikers, Louis and Finnigan from our team,” he said. Pheto said they discussed with the European player, Finningan regarding his form, which according to them had  since took a nosedive.

He said the striker had lost his scoring touch and eventually reached an agreement to let him go.

“One can understand that having a striker coming from as far as Europe and failing to score alone is not good enough, and we agreed with him that we should let him go and he shared our sentiments,” added Pheto.

He explained that the decision was influenced by the terrible performance displayed by his side.  He said the team had been goal shy recently, which had affected their performance.

Pheto said they had since experienced a decline of chances  created and goals scored by their attacking players.  Since their trusted striker, Segolame Boy got injured, he said they had been struggling in  the scoring department.

On Louis, he said the striker had long requested the club to release him so he could head back home to redefine his form.  He said the club had early stalled releasing Louis as they had problems with their strikers  Ends
