Heat wave paves way for Thapelo
26 Jan 2016
A 20-year-old woman of Tati Siding in the North East District, Ms Thapelo Ngoni is determined to succeed in the business world and acknowledges the recent heat wave for her new business idea.
In an interview on Monday, the second year risk management student at Ba Isago University in Francistown said even though she decided to pursue a degree in risk management her mind was always on making extra money from selling different products.
Ms Ngoni said her business ideas come from either looking at the weather, the lifestyle of a certain group of people or the season of the year.
With the heat wave that has hit the country, Ms Ngoni took the weather as an advantage to pursue her cool drink business. The hot weather has left many idling around and some even petrified of walking to the shops just to buy cool drinks. In such a situation, Ms Ngoni offered to save many from the dreadful heat.
She stated that she buys different flavours of two litre soft drinks, the likes of Coca Cola and Fanta from a supermarket for P18 and sells them in disposable cups at P5 per cup.
She sells at the Rural Administration Centre in Masunga.
Additionally, Ms Ngoni said she recognised that most people do not drink coffee and tea on a hot day and thus she saw a cool drink business as the way to go.
Ms Ngoni also highlighted that since schools closed in December, she did not want to be at home doing nothing and thought of doing the business to keep herself busy as well as to interact with people.
She said indulging in business was the only solution to fighting unemployment.
Furthermore, she also added that she cannot rely only on her school allowance hence she stood up and doubled the money.
She also stated that she used to sell at trade shows and possesses the talent to persuade people to buy.
She advised other youth to do something to better their lives by selling sweets, chewing gum, airtime or anything that could bring money.
“There is always a foundation for everything, for one to be somewhere higher, they start at the bottom and for one to succeed in the business world it is all about determination and hard work,” she said. Ends
