LKC rugby team to tour Wales

26 Jan 2016

The Livingstone Kolobeng College (LKC) rugby team will embark on a 10-day tour of Wales from February 18.

Addressing the media yesterday, LKC rugby team manager, Fredy Mutenheri, said the tour would come at a time when the school will be celebrating its 10th anniversary.

“We have done such a momentous achievement to travel to the UK and this was through the partnership of the school and parents,” he said.

He said the Jaguars, as the team is popularly known among the fans, would train with the Welsh national rugby team.

Mutenheri said the team would also have a session with a renowned Welsh referee, James Jones.

He expressed gratitude towards companies that came on-board to ensure the tour becomes a success.

He mentioned the likes of Vincent Travel and Tours who sponsored the school rugby tournament and provided the team with transport.

He also listed Canon Botswana who funded the trip, while AON Botswana bought bags for the touring team of 30 boys.

For his part, head coach, Dent Patrick, described the tour as a life time opportunity, adding that they were grateful.

He noted that in the past, they were only afforded a chance to travel to neighbouring countries such as Zimbabwe and South Africa.

“This time around, we are afforded a trip overseas to a place like Wales, which has one of the great teams of rugby,” he said.

Patrick said they hoped to benefit from the tour, as they would interact with other great players of rugby.

“The Welsh are playing a totally different game to ours, hence we believe going out will give our boys a chance to reap from the vast experience possessed by the European teams,” he added.

The visit, he said, would help them change the perception people had about the sport.

He further said they intended to come back and engage other school teams to share with them their experiences from the tour. Ends
