Pre-schools are important as they improve learning and integrated needs of a child.
Speaking during an interview on Friday, Mr Atera Douglas, who is a teacher at King Zone Pre-School in Bobonong, said pre schools help to produce a well-rounded child who is ready to learn and be part of society. He added that pre-schools enhance pupil’s reading skills as well as developing them to be responsible citizens who respect the spirit of botho.
Mr Douglas said an educated child knows how to share and care for others.
He cited that they develop children who know that they should avoid polluting the environment, and are tolerant of other children with special needs. Mr Douglas noted that part of their syllabus offers modules where children learn through playing with toys.
“Play is the business of children as it is their right and way of learning,” he said.
He emphasised that children grow physically, mentally, emotionally and socially through play.
“This will also develop their muscles, minds and imagination,” said Mr Douglas.
He said they offer subjects such as English, Mathematics, Environmental Science and Moral Education.
“We encourage children to speak, write and read English as most of the subjects are taught in English,” he continued.
He stressed that they also instil a sense of discipline to curb bullying and aggressiveness among children.
Mr Douglas said they absorb children at an age of two years six months since at this age a child is ready and prepared to learn. He said as teachers they also play the role of parents like ensuring that children are clean and eat a healthy meal. Ends
