League cup contenders’ fans on Saturday nearly exchanged blows in Molepolole after their team, Township Rollers suffered  a 2-1 bashing by lowly placed BR Highlanders which has since seen Rollers fans in jitters as hopes for a silverware seems fading.

Rollers went into the game knowing that a win against minnows BR will see them still occupying top spot, but met a side still fighting to keep their heads above water in the league, and BR once again lived to become their hoodoo team especially at a critical stage of the league. 

Rollers even last season were on the verge of winning the league only to falter at the finish line which saw across town rivals Mochudi Centre Chief snatching the cup, and the fans may be justified to worry amid boardroom politics which has been raging on from last year when warring parties Township Rollers Company and Township Rollers Society took their wars to court.

The wars have since threatened to divide Rollers into two camps and the situation in Molepolele was a replica of the wars of control by the two factions pointing fingers at each other over the performance of the team.

Rollers which has always had a hard time to beat Highlanders, their loss of grip on top of the league has not only led to unhappy Rollers fans at loggerheads with management with the former blamed for boardroom poor showing of their team, but also earned them ridicule from other rival fans.

Acting Molepolole Police Station Commander said the little fracas at the stadium was reported to have been caused by Township Rollers supporters who were allegedly vying for one official Mookodi Seisa’s blood after the team was toppled from top spot following the drabbing by BR Highlanders.

She said there were no reported cases of fighting following the fracas, saying the presence of police at the game must have averted any danger if there was any as they escorted out the official who the fans were said to be angry with. Ends
