Botswana Chess Federation (BCF) will host a chess tournament on Saturday at Legae Academy in Gaborone with a grand prize of P3 000 at stake.
According to a news release, the chess tournament will be a 2016 traditional year opener and will run from January 30 to 31.
It says the tournament dubbed Airfficiency year opener sets the ball rolling and is highly favoured for setting the tempo for the year.
It further says the tournament brings together chess players from across southern Africa who seek to start the year on a good note.
The release says the 2015 tournament had brought together 117 chess players of different strengths and titles from Botswana, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
It furthers states the tournament will be played in three sections, being open section which is open to all players regardless of gender, titles or rating.
The ladies section which will be strictly reserved for ladies and the youth section.
It says the format will be a seven round Swiss individual pairing system with 65 minutes time allocation a player.
The release says the tournament will be sponsored by Airfficiency to the tune of P20 000. It futher explains the company has been supporting the event for the past six years. The 2015 event was supported by P15 000.
It says the first prize for the open section will be P3 000 and ladies section first prize will be P2 000 while prizes for youth section will mostly be chess equipment. Ends
