Residents want feedback on Lehutshelo issue
25 Jan 2016
Residents of Hukuntsi have complained that the Ministry of Education and Skills Development has delayed giving them feedback on the Lehutshelo Junior Secondary School commission.
One of the concerned residents, Mr Lenkemetse Tshiamonyana raised the concern during a kgotla meeting addressed by the area Member of Parliament, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi on Friday.
He said the community had in the past asked the Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Moiseraele Goya to intervene in resolving the dispute between the school management.
Mr Tshiamonyana narrated that Mr Goya had to call an abrupt mediation meeting for the school management last October after it surfaced during a kgotla meeting that both the school head and his deputy do not see eye to eye, something which residents cited as a major contributing factor to the school’s poor academic results.
The constant differences between the two parties, he said, have created a hostile working environment within the school management as there was no consultation between the two.
He said it also surfaced that the conflict between the two had led to critical aspects of education not being attended to such as students and teachers welfare.
Mr Tshiamonyana highlighted that the community awaits feedback from the assistant minister since the misunderstandings and poor working relations between the school head and his deputy still exist.
In response, the area MP, Mr Moipisi pleaded with residents not to despair as he would refer the matter to relevant authorities.
He applauded them for their concern regarding the school, saying it illustrates their role and contribution towards improving education in the region.
Mr Moipisi also said he was aware of the differences between the school’s top management, adding that it has created a hostile working environment within the school management, as there was no consultation between the two resulting in critical education aspects being affected.
Mr Moipisi further commended the education sector in Kgalagadi North for showing improvement in the past Primary School Leaving Examination results.
He applauded Ncaang Primary School for achieving the best results in the sub district despite being a settlement school.
Settlements pupils, he said, faced many challenges and they deserve all the accolades when they achieve better results. Ends
