Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, has urged Batswana to take pride in the roving torch because it unites the nation.
Mr Masisi said this at Maun kgotla where Batawana gathered to welcome the torch in their village on Saturday.
The roving torch arrived in Maun last Thursday in the afternoon and spent three nights at the main kgotla.
Mr Masisi emphasised the importance of the torch, saying it brought love and good things amongst the communities.
“I am happy that Batswana welcomed the torch with open hearts as they appreciate its importance. Molelo o ga se wa botlhodi kana diphera ke wa lorato o o golaganyang Batswana ka kakaretso,” he said.
He added that the torch promoted unity among Batswana hence all should embrace it and be a proud nation.
Furthermore, Mr Masisi informed Maun residents that government was aware of some challenges faced by their district, ranging from drought, fishing, wildlife/human conflict and prolonged absence of beef market due to livestock disease outbreaks.
Thus, he assured them that government would continue to look into addressing such challenges, adding a meeting was recently held to discuss issues and map a way forward.
He told them that as soon as discussions were completed, some representatives would visit the district to update them on decisions taken.
Kgosi Kealetile Moremi acknowledged that the torch had certainly brought good things to the district.
Kgosi Moremi explained that the region had been experiencing high temperatures since the beginning of the year and since they received the torch which was from Ghanzi District their area had been blessed with some showers.
She said the torch had brought excitement and joy to the community as they flocked the kgotla upon its arrival to give it a warm welcome.
Kgosi Moremi further said they expected more good things to come.
Maun Administration Authority chairman, Mr Gaokgakala Letswee thanked the Vice President for his visit.
Mr Letswee said Mr Masisi showed love to Batawana because he decided to visit and greet them while in Maun to attend other events.
Meanwhile, the roving torch delegation together with other district authorities had opportunity to visit some historical sites such as the Chiefs Island, Mochaba Tree, Mogobe wa Matola, Old Agricultural Offices and Batawana National School which is now named after Kgosi Moremi. Ends
