GU Gunners target win
21 Jan 2016
After suffering a loss in their opening game after the Christmas break, Gaborone United will this weekend head to the National Stadium in search of redemption.
After losing by a solitary goal to the on fire Orapa United, Moya Goleele will, however, be wary that their next opponents may be as tough as the last one.
In the beMOBILE Premiership games this weekend, GU will welcome Lobatse giants, Extension Gunners under the floodlights at the National Stadium on Saturday.
GU’s interim coach, George Mogopodi knows that losing against Gunners will put his team under pressure, but the ever positive Mogopodi said in an interview that he has confidence in his boys. “Even though we create a lot of scoring chances, our main undoing seems to be lack of a killer instinct.
The sooner we sharpen our finishing touch the better, and looking at the general play of the team, it is not that bad,” Mogopodi said last week after their loss to Orapa United in Molepolole.
Having acquired the league’s top goalscorer in Moatlhodi Ralesota from Serowe’s Green Lovers, Mogopodi will be hoping that his scoring problems will be solved. Ralesota was given a run against Orapa United last weekend, and supporters will be hoping that this time around he will be given enough time to prove his mettle.
Gunners will on the other hand come into the game with high morale after collecting maximum points against basement team, FC Satmos. Gunners will be hoping to use former GU winger, Mandla Mgadla to inflict revenge in his former team.
The winger joined Guna Guna after being released by GU.
The games will kick off today as Orapa United welcomes Nico United to their fortress at Itekeng Stadium. Orapa are expected to collect maximum points to keep Township Rollers on their toes.
In their last game against GU, the Ostriches seemed to still have their foot on the accelerator, and mentor, Madinda Ndlovu has made it clear that this season their intention is to win at least one silverware.
At Serowe Sports Complex, Green Lovers will welcome struggling neighbours, Motlakase Power Dynamos. Green Lovers will be hoping to avoid last weekend’s disappointment when they left BR Highlanders off the hock to draw 3-3 .
Still on Friday, BDF XI welcomes Galaxy FC at the Molepolole Sports Complex. In Selebi Phikwe on Saturday, FC Satmos will be on the hunt for the elusive first win of the season when they welcome Miscellaneous.
Since the premiership started the Cheetahs have not registered a single win and their shaky defence that has so far let in 30 goals.
The high flying Mmeselane are expected to bring back maximum points from the copper mining town. Still on Saturday, log leaders Township Rollers will be looking to correct the hiccup they suffered when they fired blanks away to Galaxy FC.
Popa will face low lying BR Highlanders in what on paper appears to be a one way traffic in favour of the former. In the last game of the day, Sankoyo Bush Bucks will be hoping to pull another Houdini when they welcome Police XI at the Maun Sports Complex.
Only a single game is earmarked for Sunday when Gilport Lions will lock horns with Mochudi Centre Chief. The Kgatleng giants disappointed many fans when they let in a late equaliser against lowly rated Sankoyo last weekend.
Zimbabwean gaffer, Mike Sithole will be hoping to instill seriousness on his boys to avoid such costly errors, especially as the premiership race reaches the home straight.
All the Friday games will kick off at 7pm while the rest of the games will kick off at 4pm except the fixture between GU and Gunners that start at 8pm, as well as that between Sankoyo and Police XI that starts at 5pm. Ends
