BDF XI walloped Nico United 1-0 in a beMobile Premiership second leg encounter in Selebi Phikwe on Saturday January 16.
Khumbulani Madziba scored the goal in the 11th minute after Nico’s defence made a reckless mistake that gave way to an easy goal for BDF.
The first half belonged to BDF XI as they launched numerous attacks.
BDF XI goal hunter, Patrick Kaunda, kept reappearing in Nico’s defence area now and then trying to penetrate the wall.
Following Madziba’s goal, Nico’s defence became alert and did a good job defending their goal to avoid another embarrassment from the soldiers.
The teams went for recess with BDF XI leading 1-0. In the second half, tables started to turn. Nico’s players came back eager to equalise.
The mining town boys put a lot of pressure on the BDF side but failed to convert the numerous chances they had.
In an interview, Nico’s Coach Duncan Tshegofatso expressed disappointment at the loss.
He said if they could manage to prevent the goal they could have at least maintained a goalless draw.
However, he noted that after losing a goal, his team picked up its pace in the second half and tried hard to equalise, but failed to score.
He said his boys managed to gain control of the ball from the back, but failed to score goals.
“We were in control of the game in the second half and put more pressure on our opponents but we failed to score goals,” he said.
However, he noted that the game against BDF was their first encounter of the second part of the season and they would go back to the drawing board to put things in order.
BDF XI coach Beston Chambeshi said he was happy his boys collected three points from Nico though it was a tough game especially in the second half.
He said his boys did well.
He also thanked BDF XI fans for the support they had given his team.
He also commended be Mobile for sponsoring the league which helped in the growth of football in the country.
He urged football fans to continue supporting soccer in the country.
Currently BDF are on the fourth spot with 33 points while Nico are on position nine with 23 points. Ends
