Panthers duo squash UB Giants
17 Jan 2016
Panthers on Saturday delivered a double victory against UB Giants men and ladies crushing them 8-5 and 20-5 respectively in their own home ground at the ongoing BoFiNet Softball League.
It was such a bad day for the UB Giants teams who lacked composure and a winning drive.
The men duel saw Panthers starting on a high note with a home run from Disang Selemogwe in the first inning which drove home two more runs by Tshepiso Mphapogang and Tiro Mazulungwa.
UB Giants retaliated in the first inning with a run from Mothusi Gabogaisanye following the pitchers error throw far off the play.
Gabriel Kebiditswe followed suit and registered a point all thanks to Oarabe Mokgethi’s smack to the outfield.
The game then went lukewarm without any hits in the second innings with only Panthers registering a sole point from Mphapogang through a pass ball.
Panthers gained momentum in the third inning, making promising hits to fill up the bases and Mazulungwa did not disappoint taking the bat with all bases full and hit a homerun.
Panthers camp ruptured in jubilation responding to the home run which sailed home three other points from Tato Matenge, Metlha Matsetse and Floyd Kgomotso.
The Giants did not want to be left behind as they also came into the third inning looking fierce and ready for battle and it paid off with two runs from Keleboge Maboa and Mokgethi.
The last run for UB Giants came in the fifth inning following an error by the fielders as the ball propelled far to the fence and the game ended 8-5.
As for the UB Giants ladies, it was total humiliation on their part giving away free bases, a fragmented fielding system which saw players being swapped around to different positions and it did not work.
In the second inning, Giants gave away 15 points to Panthers which saw Panthers batters making a second appearance at the batter’s box in just one inning.
UB Giants surrendered in the third inning upon realising that Panthers was in it to win and squash them completely. Ends
