New hospital for Kasane

14 Jan 2016

A 120-bed capacity hospital is on the cards in Kasane for the 2016/ 2017 financial year.

Member of Parliament (MP) for Chobe, Mr Machana Shamukuni, said this recently when addressing a kgotla meeting in Kasane.

“The hospital will cost P410 million and it is welcome development in our district,” he said.

Mr Shamukuni said P4 million  would be put aside for the hospital’s design.

He also stated that Kasane and Kazungula health posts would be upgraded to fully fledged clinics.

In other issues, Mr Shamukuni  said Pandamatenga had been earmarked as a specialised economic zone for agriculture with the aim of ensuring food security and export at regional level.

One of the residents, Mr Onkabetse Mogwe complained that tourism enterprises were not doing enough to give back to the district they were operating in.

Another resident, Mr Lloyd Mutakela lamented the poor attendance at the kgotla meeting saying the same pattern repeated itself at the Parents Teacher Association (PTA) forums.

“While I know that a unified secondary school is urgently needed in Chobe, I know that parents will still fail to attend PTA meetings even if the school was to be brought closer to them,” he noted.

Mr Mpho Sibanda, who is living with disability, complained that roads and government offices in Kasane were not user friendly for those living with disabilities.

He added that their needs must be mainstreamed into future infrastructural plans to improve accessibility, also noting that in the absence of a disability policy, it was hard to make the government to account for failing to ensure buildings were accessible. Ends
