13 Jan 2016
President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama visited Lentswe Le Moriti in the Bobirwa Sub-district on Tuesday (January 12).
He gave blankets and food items to the elderly as well as some goodies to children. The President also handed over a camp chair and bibles to the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) leader, Mr Lebotse Matshego.
The church leader would distribute bibles in the village so as to spread the word of God.
The village kgotla received 30 chairs to be used during kgotla meetings and other special occasions.
President Khama donated solar power lamps to residents and a football team kit including soccer balls.
He advised the councillor and Village Development Committee to organise a tournament and place the kit as a reward to winners.
Regarding issues such as the state of the road linking the settlement with Motlhabaneng and unavailability of an ambulance, President Khama said the gravel road seemed not to be on a bad state especially when using an off-road vehicle or 4x4.
However, he noted that he would link up with the minister responsible for roads to discuss the issue.
He also indicated that he would do a follow-up to find out when the boarded ambulance would be replaced.
Meanwhile, the treasurer of Lentswe Le Moriti ZCC, Mr Ofentse Molefhe appreciated President Khama’s visit, saying it was for the second time that the President visited the place.
He thanked President Khama for introducing constituency tournaments explaining that the move was paying dividends as youth were more disciplined.
He said the village football team also competed in constituency tournament and won P5 500 and a trophy.
For his part, the area MP, Mr Shaw Kgathi, thanked President Khama for finding time to visit Lentswe Le Moriti and giving to residents.
He said what President Khama did was in line with the Bible teachings where leaders take care of their people especially orphans, children and the elderly.
Mr Kgathi, also Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, said the village primary school had been doing well obtaining a 100 per cent pass rate in the Primary School Living Examination for the past years.
However, he expressed concern that the pass rate in other schools in the Bobirwa Sub -district especially junior and senior secondary schools was deteriorating.
He said the pass rate decreased from 81 per cent in 2012 to 19 per cent.
He said he had ordered schools in the region to hold meetings with teachers and school leaders to establish what caused failure in the region.
Mr Kgathi commended President Khama for being awarded the Philosophy of Doctrine from a University in South Korea. He also said President Khama was visionary and accountable leader who had led this country to where it was today. Ends
