Guard against predators

President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama has appealed to residents of Motlhabaneng in Bobonong constituency to protect their livestock against predators.
He said this when donating hampers to some Motlhabaneng residents on Tuesday January 12.
However, President Khama acknowledged challenges posed by wild animals such as lions and elephants, therefore he said those deserving must be compensated.
Concerning the road that links Motlhabaneng with Lekkerport, he said he would communicate with the minister responsible to ensure that the road would be tarred through the Economic Stimulus Programme.
President Khama also promised that beMOBILE would be contacted concerning complaints about lack of network in the area.
The President was responding to Kgosi Bethuel Machete who expressed concern that lions devoured livestock acquired through LIMID while elephants destroyed crops.
Kgosi Machete had requested that the link road from Lekkerport to their village be tarred and requested for network coverage in the village to ease communication.
He said residents were appreciative of government programmes such as Ipelegeng, ISPAAD and poverty eradication, which he said many had benefited from.
Meanwhile, President Khama donated gifts that included 115 blankets, 10 bibles, 10 solar lights and 30 chairs to be used in the kgotla, football kit and ball as well as food hampers to residents.
When giving vote of thanks, MP for Bobonong, Mr Shaw Kgathi said Motlhabaneng was blessed to receive gifts from the President at the beginning of the year.
He said although the President was on leave, he had visited 13 villages where he donated hampers.
He also commended President Khama for being bestowed with an honorary degree for observing the rule of law.
Mr Kgathi, also Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, said constituents were also troubled by the Platjan border post bridge that should have been completed by now, but the tender was challenged by other contractors many times.
He said residents in the area had relatives in South Africa and during rainy seasons they were forced to travel a long distance to use the Martins Drift border post. BOPA
