Central district faces furniture shortage
10 Jan 2016
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso says lack of furniture for reception classes has affected the whole of Central District region and could last longer.
Addressing a kgotla meeting in Mookane recently, Ms Tshireletso said delivery of furniture and teaching materials for reception classes may take longer because of the tendering process.
However, the assistant minister promised that she would plead with the relevant authority to speed up the tendering process because it impacted on the learning process.
Ms Tshireletso, also a Member of Parliament for Mahalapye East Constituency, was responding to Mookane Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Mr Oagile Mofokeng.
Mr Mofokeng had raised concern that reception classes had commenced at Mookane Primary School without furniture in the classrooms.
He had also expressed concern about lack of teaching material for reception classes at the school.
The situation at the school, he said made it difficult for the learning process to take place because the environment was not conducive.
Also, Mr Mofokeng was concerned about shortage of chairs and desks for standard one pupils. Ends
