Festive road accidents decline

At least 28 people have died in separate road accidents from December 18 to January 3, 2016. A press release from Botswana Police Services (BPS) noted that for the same period last year, 37 people had died in road accidents.
“A total of 408 people died from 327 road accidents recorded last year compared to 377 who perished from 288 road accidents in 2014,” reads part of the statement.
The statement says in one of the accidents which happened on New Year's day, an unidentified man was knocked to death by a motor vehicle near Morwa junction along the A1 road.
The press statement further states that in another accident, which happened on New Year's day near Moshupa, a 63-year-old man died after two vehicles collided head on.
“Three passengers were in one of the vehicles; the driver of one of the vehicles and a passenger have been admitted at Thamaga Primary Hospital,” reads the statement.
The press statement further indicates that two people died in yet another accident that occurred on January 3 in Mahalapye, when a vehicle carrying seven passengers overturned.
“Four passengers, including the driver, have been admitted at Mahalapye District Hospital with serious injuries while two were treated and discharged,” the press statement reads. Ends
