Matobo meets government half way

05 Jan 2016

Matobo village in Nkange constituency is one of the places that are going to receive projects on the government’s Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP).

However the residents in their efforts to add to what the government is going to give them met recently to share ideas on constructing a shelter at their kgotla.

Addressing the residents, Kgosi Oteng Matobo highlighted to them that during a recent meeting with their Member of Parliament, Mr Edwin Batshu, he informed them that their kgotla offices are going to be built through ESP.

Kgosi Matobo noted that the project would only be construction of the offices and thus does not include the shelter.

He said since they came up with the idea of the shelter at their annual meeting last year, they raised funds towards the construction of the shelter, saying their plan should not be thrown away with the believe that the shelter is included in government plans.

Kgosi Matobo further stated that they should carry out their own developments as well and not leave everything to government.

Briefing the residents about the anticipated project, the secretary for the steering committee, Mr Geoffrey Makale explained that the kgotla shelter serves as the village customary court and a place which they will use to host key community events such as consultative meetings with government leadership as well as the community.

Mr Makale noted that the current shelter has become too small as the village has over the years outgrown its capacity.

He thus pointed out that they have decided as residents of Matobo to fundraise with the help of the business community to build a new shelter which will accommodate about 1000 people with a provision for use by disabled people as too they should be incorporated in the developments of their village.

Mr Makale further noted that to fundraise, residents are to contribute an amount of P100 per person towards the project and it targets all the people of Matobo, including those staying outside the village.

He said the project will take almost 24 months to be fully completed. Ends
