The Charity Association of Chinese People in Selebi Phikwe has donated goodies worth P80 000 to needy children in Botshabelo ward.

Speaking during the donation, the deputy head of mission and political councillor Mr Li Nan from the Embassy of the Republic of China said they donate every year as part of their corporate social responsibility mandate.

He noted that it is their responsibility as the Chinese business community to donate or give back to the community they operate in because there is more joy in giving than receiving which is part of their Chinese culture.

He further noted that 2015 marks the 40^th Anniversary of bilateral agreement between Botswana and the Chinese Republic which puts Botswana in a better state to utilise the US$60 billion aid to Africa by China.

He appreciated the Selebi Phikwe Town Council (SPTC) for the support they offer the Chinese community in terms of trading. 

He commended the Chinese business community for creating jobs through the businesses they have and partnering with institutions such as CITF in training locals.

For his part, the town mayor Mr Amogelang Mojuta said the town is gradually becoming a vibrant town. 

He said the leadership has come up with initiatives to diversify the economy of the region and create more jobs for locals and bring developments. 

He commended the Chinese community for taking part in this endeavour.

He urged the Chinese to invest more in local initiatives or businesses to help SPTC achieve its dreams of becoming an economic hub. 

He also appreciated the donations from Chinese community noting that what they had done would inspire other Chinese, local business people and the rest of people living in the mining town to care and give back to the needy.

Mr Zhai Luo from the Chinese Embassy in Botswana encouraged the Botshabelo community to always do good unto others especially children as they are the future of the country.

The donation included food, clothing, stationery and toys. Ends
