Botswana’s volleyball star Tracy Chaba is back home after staying in the United Arab Emirates for only three months with Al Wahda Club.                 

Chaba, had signed an eight months contract with Al Wahda Club, but her contract was terminated after the club was dissolved due to issues between the club and the federation in United Arab Emirates.

She confirmed to BOPA that indeed the ladies volleyball team and its technical team was dissolved due to unforeseen circumstances.

“Honestly I do not have answers as to why the club was dissolved, but what pains me is the fact that I was offered a contract by a club in Turkey, but I decided to honour my contract with Al Wahda. Little did I know that I will be in this situation, but that’s sport,” she said.

Chaba, however said not all was lost because, if things could go according to plan, she might join one of the Egyptian clubs in January. Whilst at Al Wahda, she said she was under the tutelage of the Egyptian coaches adding that they were impressed by her hard work, and she was not surprised to hear that one of the top clubs in Egypt was interested in her service.

Chaba further said after their club was dissolved she was given yet another club in Abu Dhabi but she turned down the offer. “You see I was very confused, so I had to come back home. Honestly I did not want to make any hasty decision, hence I had to come to clear my mind but what I can tell is that more offers are coming. But I like Egypt because they have a good and competitive league,” she said.

Chaba said she has learnt a lot of things during her three months stay at Al Wahda and the team members were like family to her. This was not the first time Chaba played in a professional set up. She once played for a top club Mechaal Baladiat Bejaia Volleyball Club in Algeria which she helped finish the league perched on position two and having qualified for the Algerian cup final. ENDS
