Khama spreads Christmas spirit
29 Dec 2015
President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama says Christmas is a time to reach out to others.
He said this when donating food hampers to children who thronged his homestead at Makolojane on Christmas Day.
The event has become popular and children from the village always look forward to Christmas. The hampers were an assortment of goodies which included chips, sweets and drinks, among other things.
President Khama said the essence of Christmas was for people to reflect on their faith, not solely about having fun. He said this was a time people should be with their families and appreciate the importance of family.
Giving of presents, he said, should not be for a day only but should be part of their lives. “What Jesus did for mankind was not for a day,” he said.
He said this year’s Christmas was a momentous one for the country, as it was about to turn 50. Therefore, he said Batswana must reflect on what they had done in building the nation.
He said people should also contribute to addressing the challenges the country was facing. He said what made Batswana stand out from others was the spirit of Botho.
Some of the recipients expressed their gratitude towards the President by showering him with poems. Bokhutlo
