Okavango ready for ESP

The Permanent Secretary to the President says Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) aims at resuscitating the economy, as it will bring positive results such as job creation if implemented accordingly. 

Mr Carter Morupisi said the programme will reduce the country’s economic reliance on the mining sector which constitutes 70 per cent of the economy. 

Addressing public officers in Gumare recently, Mr Morupisi said government has put programmes in place such as the Economic Diversification Drive and Special Economic Zones which are all purported for employment creation as well as to broaden the government revenue base.

For his part, the deputy district commissioner for Okavango Sub-district, Mr Thabang Dikatholo said his area was well prepared for the programme. 

Mr Dikatholo said the sub -district has cascaded the ESP through existing programs such as District Development Committees, Village Extension Teams to ensure efficiency. 

Mr Dikatholo noted that they were on a mission to revive structures such as the Village Development Committees as they are integral to the success of the ESP. 

Furthermore, Mr Dikatholo said they have projects to be carried out which included a double classroom, four toilets and two teachers’ quarters at Etsha 6 as well as three double classroom, three toilets and five teachers’ quarters at Nxau Nxau. 

He pointed out that the Okavango Sub-district has established a database for building materials suppliers and construction companies to ease ESP implementation. 

 

On their part, the public officers appreciated the PSP’s visit and the enlightenment on ESP. Ends
