There will be a hive of activities this weekend as Kanye hosts Ga-Maila marathon on Saturday (December 19) in a pulsating event.

The marathon which will start at 6:00am will be followed by a series of activities such as aerobics and a glittering prize ceremony for the winners after the race.

The public will also be accorded an opportunity to test for different diseases such as sugar diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and HIV/AIDS among others, which will be conducted by a team of experts from Seventh Adventist Hospital in Kanye.

Speaking in an interview with BOPA on Thursday, Ga-Maila marathon publicity director Mr Osenotse Mabote encouraged the public to come in large numbers to participate in the race for their own good as it is a community building exercise that advances their health status.
He also said that people should come in large numbers to appreciate the beauty of the landscape of Kanye as it is a unique village in the country.

Mr Mabote hinted that the event has attracted tourists that will inject life into the local economy adding that it is an opportunity for youth employment creation. He said it is a social event that creates a platform for networking more especially for youth businesses that may catapult the growth of businesses.

He said the event is an opportunity for multimedia companies to market themselves however, noting that the primary objective of the event is to encourage good health among members of the community.

Mr Mabote said the race which will be an annual event will be hosted under the theme: ‘a victory lap’ which connotes that at the end of the year people should look back at their achievement and thank God for all the blessings, emphasizing that it is more of a thanks giving affair.

He said the event will cultivate a spirit of togetherness, unity, victory, discipline and also build endurance emphasizing that these are the key elements of success in life.

He said the organisers have also roped in Botswana Police Service officers who will be in control to ensure that traffic runs smoothly in the village as well as ensuring that peace and tranquility prevail.

Furthermore, various stakeholders have been invited to grace the occasion. He said the event will be for free and the winners will get prize money to encourage them to continue with the good spirit. Ends
