Gilport Lions and Gaborone United played to a goalless draw in a be MOBILE Premiership game in Gaborone on Saturday (December 12) evening.
The game started with attacks from both sides but strikers failed to convert clear cut chances.
Gaborone United’s (GU) first attack was launched by Kgololo Kgogobi in the sixth minute, but his well atken shot was saved by Gilport Lions keeper, Moatlhodi Ndana.
Immediately after that attack, Ndana distributed a ball, which ended up in Lebogang Ditsele’s foot and despite being a good position to score, Ditsele ballooned over bar.
Both teams continued to move forward and in the 10th minute, when GU supporters had already thought Mpho Kgaswane would net an opening goal, he hit the wood work.
The game became too physical, but thanks to referee Lekgotla Johannes who cautioned players to “take it easy” and the game went for break with the score board reading 0-0.Luck continued to elude GU after the break as Hendrick Moyo’s attempt hit the goal post.
It was now clear that GU came back from recess in a mean mood to finish with ‘The Lions’ but all their attempts were denied by the wood work.
In the 80th minute, Kgogobi unleashed a thunder bolt, which could have resulted as the first goal but Ndana was equal to the task.
On one hand, Lions also tried to ask questions and Ditsele proved to be a nuisance to GU defence, but Goitseone Phoko proved that he was a tried tested goalkeeper.
GU coach, Dragjo Stanojlovic, said his players played well but luck was not on their side given that, they created a lot of scoring opportunity but failed to convert them.
He said what disappointed him was the fact that they always fine tune their scoring techniques at training but during match day it became difficult to implement what they had been doing the whole week.
Furthermore, he said the players executed the game plan well, but their finishing techniques let them down.
“I am not happy, play a goalless draw, but the nature of football, if you look at it we could have scored at least four goals,” he said.
Lions, assistant coach Bathusi Tautsagae said the game was too tactical despite the fact that his had some lapses during the game.
He said the players played well and their plan was to start the game at the back, but unfortunately after 20 minutes ,GU managed to close their back and they were forced to change their plan. Ends
