Francistown DHMT needs 42 doctors

13 Dec 2015

Greater Francistown DHMT needs 42 doctors to provide efficient and effective services in 24-hour clinics, general clinics, health posts and IDCCs, Assistant Minister of Health has said.

Speaking in Parliament, Dr Alfred Madigele said the current number of doctors in greater Francistown DHMT was 25 including two on study leave. He, therefore, noted that the current number of doctors was not enough to satisfy the public health needs of the said DHMT.

Furthermore, he said the ministry faced challenges in filling vacant posts for doctors because the cadre was scarce and there was a strong competition for them within the region, where some countries had enhanced the conditions of service for doctors to attract and retain them.

Mr Madigele also said the MoH would continue with local and external recruitments to provide doctors, in addition to intensified training to make doctors available for all districts including the Greater Francistown DHMT.

Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had wanted to know the number of doctors required for the Greater Francistown DHMT, the current number of doctors and when all the vacancies would be filled. Ends
