13 Dec 2015
Parliament has been told that due to budgetary constraints, it has not been possible to avail funding in the financial year 2015/16 under the District Housing Development Programme.
The District Housing Development Programme provides housing for public officers in the districts. However, responding to a Parliamentary question on behalf of the Minister of Lands and Housing, Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Vincent Seretse said eight houses had been planned for Ghanzi district under the Public Officers Housing Initiative. He noted that the said projects were planned to start in January 2016 at an estimated cost of P1. 24 million.
Furthermore Mr Seretse said the Ministry of Lands and Housing would continue to look into other strategies such as engagement of private sector and members of the community for accommodating public officers during NDP 11 and beyond.
Ghanzi North MP, Mr Noah Salakae had asked the Minister of Lands and Housing whether there were any plans to address shortage of accommodation for public servants in the Ghanzi District through construction of staff houses, if so when will the project start and how much was the budget for the project. Ends
