Youngster shows compassion

The spirit of compassion was instilled in her at an early age by her family. She was taught to give and care for the less fortunate. Nancy Mosimane, 32, who hails from Moshupa, has always had the desire to make a difference in people’s lives.
After completing her Junior Certificate, Ms Mosimane went on to do a course in Safety Health and Environment (SHE). In 2008 she set up a foundation called Kgatelopele in Jwaneng, as a way of realising her dreams of impacting people’s lives positively.
She said she was alarmed by the number of children roaming the streets of Jwaneng, hence the formation of Kgatelopele. Ms Mosimane said the intention of the foundation is to care for the less privileged children, teach them life skills and groom them to become better people so that they could be able to contribute positivity to society, adding that the foundation aims to prepare the children to be pupils with integrity and employable qualities. She noted that some of the children have matured and were ready to face the world and the work environment.
She said when she first started the foundation she was taking care of seven children under the age of 15 years, and that she decided to use her late mother’s plot as the centre. She also explained that most of the children’s parents live in squatter camps. She added that the children have grown under Kgatelopele to be teenagers.
“Through the years the children have increased with some of them coming from other squatter camps outside Jwaneng,” said Ms Mosimane.
She stated that the foundation has different activities to keep the children busy and teach them skills, which they could use to survive in life. Activities such as pure dog breeding, gardening, sports, art and culture as well as business studies are offered to help them run small enterprises in the future.
She said since the establishment of the foundation, it has not been easy as there is shortage of accommodation at the centre. She further said even though it is difficult to take care of the children, she is no where close to losing hope.
She extended her appreciation to the community of Jwaneng for helping her with food and clothes to give to the children.Ms Mosimane pleaded for financial support from companies so as to build enough accommodation for the children, adding that she is seeking permission from the council to be able to raise funds and continue supporting the children.
