Children with disability need parental care
07 Dec 2015
Men have been urged to actively take part in the upbringing of their children living with disability. The call was made by Tshidilo Stimulation Centre board chairperson, Ms Segi Dimbo in Maun recently.
Ms Dimbo, who was speaking at Tshidilo Stimulation Christmas party celebration, called upon men to learn to accept and help take care of their children living with disability, adding that men had tendencies to shy away from responsibilities of taking care of their children with disabilities.
She advised men to accept their children the same way women do as this can make their lives easier.
Ms Dimbo highlighted that disability does not discriminate anyone, therefore people living with disabilities should be treated and accepted like any other person in the society.
Ms Violet Jacob from the regional education office commended the centre for doing ‘a sterling job’ in grooming and rehabilitating children.
She said the Ministry of Education and Skills Development recognises the education goal as stated by the Millennium Development Goal, hence they partnered with Tshidilo Stimulation Centre.
She further said as a ministry they are determined to provide education for everyone as well as encouraging education for all.
She also encouraged people to accept and learn to interact with children living with diasbility as well as supporting them, adding that the regional education office has pledged to support the centre in any way they can.
“We want to see these children succeeding in their lives,” she said. Tshidilo Stimulation Centre is a pre-school for children living with disabilities. ENDS
